History

  • November 22, 1875: Terrell’s first bank (and the predecessor of American National Bank of Texas) opens its doors for business, making it one of the oldest independently-owned banks in Texas
  • 1876: The bank moves to a new headquarters in the Star Block of Terrell
  • 1882: A disastrous fire threatens the bank; fortunately, records and securities were protected in a concrete and steel vault, and the bank opens for business the next day
  • 1903: Name changes to American National Bank of Terrell
  • 1913: Walter P. Allen is named president
  • 1930: American National Bank of Terrell merges with the First National Bank
  • 1943: Ben L. Gill Jr. is named president
  • 1956: Riter C. Hulsey becomes the first recipient of the Outstanding Citizen of Terrell award
  • 1967: Riter C. Hulsey is named president
  • 1989: Robert A Hulsey is named president and CEO
  • 1995: Name changes to American National Bank of Texas (ANBTX)
  • 1998: ANBTX acquires the Bank of Van Zandt
  • 2000: www.anbtx.com launches
  • 2002: ANBTX acquires Benchmark Bank
  • 2005: ANBTX acquires Sleeper Sewell Insurance Services, Inc.
  • 2007: ANBTX acquires Citizens National Bank
  • 2008: ANBTX acquires Dallas National Bank
  • 2011: ANBTX is named a Top 100 Places to Work in DFW for the third year in a row
  • Today, with assets over $2 billion, ANBTX continues to explore the best communities, products, services and delivery systems to meet the needs of our customers today and tomorrow
